Commission for Protection against Discrimination | Bulgaria

In 2017 the Commission for Protection against Discrimination (CPD) launched an indefinite national campaign named “Accessible Bulgaria”. The campaign aims to guarantee the right of disabled persons to accessible environment in places of public importance.

In the 2017-2019 period, the Commission initiated a total of 997 proceedings by self-referral reports, out of which a total of 283 decisions have been reached. These all referred to providing an accessible environment for people with disabilities.

The inaccessible architectural environment is a nationwide problem that requires the joint efforts of all national stakeholders.

The CPD notes with concern that despite the high level of awareness of the problems of people with disabilities, decisions in the field of accessibility are somehow delayed.

In order to promote good examples, CPD is certifying the places of public importance that have built and maintained an accessible environment, by providing them with a special CPD certificate for accessibility.
