In 20 years time, we’ll be closer to realising equality in Europe if equality law is strengthened and adequately implemented by all stakeholders, including equality bodies. Since the establishment of the National Commission for the Promotion of Equality (NCPE) in 2004, NCPE’s remit has been widened several times through amendments in the Equality for Men and Women Act. Various initiatives have been undertaken to safeguard equal treatment in the daily lives of women and men. Malta is now working to strengthen the equality legal framework through a comprehensive equality legislation and the establishment of a national human rights commission with stronger remit and powers. NCPE is looking forward to continue building on the past achievements towards de facto equality for everyone whilst strengthening our work in the context of the upcoming legal framework.
