Commission for the Rights of Persons with Disability | Malta

In Malta the Commission for the Rights of Persons with Disability is responsible for tackling discrimination cases on the grounds of disability in all areas. In addition to this we have been involved in passing legislation in many areas to strengthen the rights of disabled people, including a Maltese Sign Language Bill which made Maltese Sign Language an official language of Malta and an Autism Awareness Bill. We have also passed our Access for All Design guidelines into law and we were the first country to consider not only transposing the substantive articles of the UNCRPD into national legislation but going further by giving them direct effect. We are currently working on a Personal Autonomy Bill.
